Soapstone and a wire brush are not suitable for polishing and are more commonly used for marking or removing debris. A high polish machine finish may be too harsh for the surface and could also result in damage. Very fine sandpaper or a crocus cloth are both gentle enough to not cause any additional damage while also effectively polishing the affected surface.
